10 Fandom Wedding Themes–For Your Nerdy Nuptials (Part 2)
Published August 08, 2024

INTRO:

You thought we were done geeking out? Not even close! Here are the last 5 Fandoms to consider for your nerdtastic wedding day!

#1: Superheroes

No list of fandoms would be complete without talking about superheroes! Really this is many, many hemes–far too many to cover here. But whoever your superhuman bestie is, let him or her be your alter ego at the altar! In fact, why stop with one hero? Get the whole Justice League or all the Avengers together by wearing tee-shirts with their insignia under your suit Clark Kent style for some truly epic wedding party pics. Or forgo the undershirts for cuff links and let the heroes unite for a hands-in photo. The fantastic pictures are a huge plus for this theme; upside-down Spiderman kiss included. This theme is for a fun couple completely unabashed about their nerd-dom. A couple who will fearlessly rock a bouquet made of flowers folded from comic book pages (they’re enchanting and surprisingly elegant) or send out a custom comic designed invite. A couple who will nix flower girls in favor of a tiny Batman and Robim duo sprinkling tiny bat signal confetti or something else delightfully quirky. Imagine having a live artist to draw guest portraits in comic book style or even display an enormous, artistically rendered comic page that chronicles your journey as a couple!

#2: Star Trek

Beam us up, Scotty! We’d never insult you by lumping Star Trek in with Star Wars–that’s just criminal–but some of the thematic elements are the same. Take the constellation wedding theme a step further, starting with a fathomless navy draped from the ceiling and sprinkled with lights or a galaxy worth of star lanterns. Then let the Enterprise star in your decor elements. There’s never been a better time to commission a half-and-half cake; a baked confection that’s Star Trek on one half and transitions into traditional white. These cakes are a physical representation of blending your two passions and personalities and we are so here for it! Remember how the 70s are back in a big way? What better way to throw back to Star Trek than paying tribute to its origin era? Get big with 60s or 70s styled hair, winged eyeliner, and nude lips. Go with white go-go boots for the bride and her gals. Luckily, that funky vibe and gettin Trekky both go with retro metalics and groovy patterns for a wedding people will go intergalactic ga-ga over!

#3: Harry Potter

Imagine your guests receiving the most charming wedding invite ever: a Hogwarts acceptance letter that, instead of beckoning them to the wizarding school, summons them to your wedding. You gotta be a real Potter-head to go there, but once you do, you can have. Such. Fun. Get a little dark with temporary Death Eater tattoos for groomsmen–the pictures are just too awesome. Embrace a crimson and gold color palette (unless you’re not Gryffindors, of course). Immortalize Snape’s love vow to Lily with “Always” inscribed on the cake or, better yet, engraved on the wedding bands. And go full golden snitch in a jaw-dropping gold bridal gown or let it flutter into an updo. Golden “Felix Felicis” cocktails or frosty butterbeer shakes will be big crowdpleasers. Line up banquet tables divided into the four houses–sorting ceremony option–and play a game of lawn-based Quidditch, and this’ll be the wedding kids of all ages will remember.

#4: Dungeons and Dragons

Marriage is the ultimate campaign where Dungeons and Dragons lovers can marry in deliciously dorky fashion. Gotta get fully medieval with this shindig; a castle-like setting or rough stone backdrop, mead in tankards, chain mail jewelry, and groomsmen swords. The bigger you go with the atmosphere, the more enthralling the vibe will be. D + D dice make the perfect accessory–on the tables, as a ring box, as cuff links or clustered in the boutonniere, the list goes on! Not to mention the dragon half of Dungeons and Dragons. Poking out of a pocket, perched on a cake, or suggested in delicate dragon scale detailing in a bridal headdress. And if campaigning really is your thing, why not ditch the dinner and dancing for a finger food buffet and a custom campaign in which your guests and bridal party alike compete? Perhaps a campaign that walks through various special places or moments in your relationship. For unique and meaningful, that beats the conga any day!

#5: Dr. Who

Want the most dynamic photo booth of all times? Enter the Tardis! A Tardis photo booth made an appearance on “The Big Bang Theory.” And those guys are clearly the expert on all things perfectly nerdy. If you love the Time Lord, rocket your wedding out of this world with a Dr. Who themed wedding with Tardis, Tardis everywhere! Whether it’s custom painted Tardis bridal shoes or a Tardis-adorned boutonniere, if you’re going to lean into this theme, lean in hard. Anchor the event in royal blue and include clocks and timepieces however you can; a cluster of oversized clocks as the backdrop, the groom sporting a pocket watch. Channel the original airing by doing 60s mod decor–think LOTS of bright colors, LOTS of bold patterns, swirls and circles galore. Or, if you’re brave enough, set your wedding in a garden ringed with Weeping Angel statues–just be sure not to blink! Host a pre-ceremony cocktail hour to sip on some spacey blue brue and wait for your turn in that photo booth. Because Dr. Who takes place anytime and everywhere, props for the photo booth can be absolutely anything: from Western to Victorian with classic mustache and monocle. Have guests send you off with giant bubbles or something else beautifully bizarre. If you believe your love transcends time and space, call in the doctor.

CONCLUSION:

These fun and funky fandoms are eye catching, interesting, and often shamelessly silly. But most importantly, they’re personal. They’re based on what you seriously love. And since you already seriously love each other, why not dedicate your union to something else you adore? So if these fandoms aren’t your thing, go with what’s personal for the two of you as a couple. You might worry that people will think it’s immature. But those people aren’t having nearly as much fun as you will. So GO ALL IN and see how it transforms your big day.

Oh, and book the Venue at the Ranches while you’re at it. 😉
